About Embassy of Romania to the United States of America
The Embassy of Romania in Washington carries out all the representative functions for Romania in The United States of America. The representation role of the Embassy involves promoting and protecting the interests of the Romanian state and Romanian citizens, in accordance with international law, and Romanian and U.S. legislation. As well as fulfilling its representative functions, the Embassy also coordinates the activities of the Consulates General of Romania in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and Miami and has the support of the Honorary Consulates of Romania in U.S.
The Embassy facilitates the dialogue between the Romanian and U.S. institutions in all fields of co-operation that represent the content of the relations between Romania and the United States of America. Through this approach, the Embassy’s activity directly contributes to the support and development of the US-Romania Strategic Partnership, launched in 1997.
The Embassy’s team is dedicated to promote the friendly relations between Romania and the U.S. We aim to further develop and deepen the excellent relationship existing between Romania and the U.S., contributing with ideas and expertise to the co-operation agenda in political, economic, cultural, academic and scientific fields. Thus, Romania’s European profile, its potential of economic development and modernization of society and prestigious Romanian cultural patrimony and the countless intellectual and talent resources of the Romanians are all unveiled.
The Embassy is actively involved in maintaining and foster links between the Romanian community in the United States of America and Romania. One of the strongest pillars of the bilateral relation remains the Romanian-American community which, over more than a century, has brought its contribution of talent, hard work and ingenuity to a prosperous and dynamic United States.
The Embassy’s activity is based on the close and lasting bilateral relations between two states that share the fundamental values of democracy, the rule of law, liberty and prosperity, promoting peace, human rights and international co-operation, sharing a common vision on topics of global interest.
The diplomatic relations between Romania and the United States of America were established on the 14th of June, 1880.
